Setting up PCM Type
PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) is the most frequently used analog-to-digital encoding (A/D
conversion technique to convert analog voice into digital signal). SMG-400 provides 2 PCM types,
which are A-law and U-law.

A-law
: A-law is an ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union) standard for analog-to-
digital conversion in PCM. A-law is used in most of the telephone networks in
Europe, and similar to U-law used in North America.

Setting up the PCM type of the SMG-400 using the following directions.
1. In the <PSTN Configuration Menu> screen, type ‘2’ and press [Enter].
