Section 6 Trace Settings
This Section describes the trace settings for the spectrum analyzer mode of the S5105D/E/F
microwave analyzer, including the opening, closing, and holding of traces, and how to use limit lines.
1
Open/close the trace
The S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer provides 3 traces in the spectrum analyzer mode. Steps for
opening the trace are:
a) In the main menu area, Press [Trace] → [Trace 1 2 3] to select the current operation trace, and the
selected trace number is underlined;
b) Press [Clear Write] to open the display of the selected trace on the screen, while the [Hide Trace]
button is used to close the selected trace;
c) The [View] , [Max Hold] and [Min Hold] soft keys maintain the working state settings of the selected
trace;
d) Each time you Press [Clear Write] , the screen traces are re-sweeping from the beginning.

Limit line measurement
The limit line function can be used to monitor signals in a certain frequency band. The
S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer provides upper and lower limit lines. If the amplitude of the signal
in a certain frequency band exceeds the set upper limit line or is less than the set lower limit line,
the microwave analyzer will send an audible alarm signal. The operations of editing and using limit lines
are as follow:
a) Press [Trace] → [Limit >] to enter the limit line editing menu;
b) Press [Limit] → [Limit OFF ON] to open the limit line test function, and then the limit line will be
displayed on the screen;
c) Press [Cur Limit Up Low] to switch the current limit to the upper limit or the lower limit;
d) Press [Edit->] to edit the currently displayed limit; [Sel Point 1], switch the limit point on the current
limit; set the frequency of the current limit point, type the value with numeric keys and select the
frequency unit to complete the input; Press [Value] , input the amplitude value of the frequency point
with numeric keys , and select the corresponding amplitude unit; Press [Add] to add a frequency
point; Press [Delete] to delete the limit point currently displayed on the current limit; Press [Clear] to
clear all stored limit points on the current limit
e) Repeat step d to add other frequency points. When editing the frequency point, user can modify the
edited frequency points through the [Del Pt] , [Del All] , [Prev Point] , [Next Point] menus.
f)
After completing all frequency point settings, Press [Return] .
g) Press the [Limit >] → [Alarm OFF ON] and the status of the menu is ON, the microwave analyzer will
sound a beep alarm when the limit line test fails.
h) Press [Limit Off On] to open the limit line display. At this time, the limit line composed of the
frequency points just edited will be displayed on the screen, and the upper limit line is indicated by
the red line.
i)
Press [Alarm OFF ON] to set the audible alarm switch. When the alarm function is turned on, the
microwave analyzer will sound a beep alarm if the limit line test fails.
j)
Press [Store], enter the name with the numeric keypad, and save the previously edited limit line into
the system. When you make the same measurement next time, please recall the limit line through
the [Recall>] menu, which can save the user from repeating the editing work.
The method of editing and using lower limit line is the same as that of upper limit line, and will not be
described here. Figure 5-5 shows an example of a limit line test.
