local oscillator does not sweep (the span is zero). At this time, the microwave analyzer becomes a
fixed tuned receiver whose bandwidth is the resolution bandwidth.
e) [Span Pre]: set the span to the previously set value;
f)
Under the [Span] soft menu, press the [↑] /[↓] key or the rotary knob to change the span.

Set the step frequency
Set the step frequency by following these steps:
a) Press
【
Frep
】
→[Step Freq Auto Man];
b) Enter the step frequency with the figure key, and select the frequency unit on the touch screen.
In automatic mode, the default frequency step value is 1MHz. The step frequency is set to 1Hz - the
maximum frequency of the instrument model. In the manual mode, the stepping amount of the center
frequency can be adjusted with the figure keys, step keys or the rotary knob. At this time, activate
[Center Freq] and press the step key, the center frequency will change according to the set step amount.
This feature is very useful for quickly adjusting the center frequency to the harmonics of the input signal.
For example: observe the harmonic of 300MHz input signal, set [Freq Step Auto Man] to manual, and
enter 300MHz. If the center frequency is 300MHz at this time, press the step key to increase the center
frequency to 600MHz. Press the step key again to increase the center frequency to 300MHz and set it to
900MHz. The underlined state in the menu of [Freq Step Auto Man] indicates whether the step setting is
in automatic or manual mode. When the step is in manual mode, press the menu [Freq Step Auto Man]
to make the frequency step returned to automatic mode and the step restored to the default value 1MHz.
Section 3 Amplitude/ scaleplate setting
This section introduces the detailed setting of measurement amplitude in SA mode of

Analyzer, including the methods for using the preamplifier and
the selection of scale type. Press to open the menu of amplitude and scale setting.
1
Set the reference level
In general, setting the signal peak at the reference level provides an optimal measurement accuracy.
a) Press
【
Amplitude
】
→[Ref Level];
b) Enter the reference level with the figure key, and select the reference frequency unit on the touch
screen, or adjust the reference level with a step key or a rotary knob.
2
Set the attenuator
Attenuation in SA mode can be set automatically or manually with the reference level.
a) Press
【
Amplitude
】
→[Atten Auto Man]. The attenuation is associated with the reference level in the
automatic mode and can be set by the user in the manual mode.
b) Enter the attenuation with the figure key, or press [↑] [↓] or use the rotary knob to change it. Setting
range of the attenuator in SA mode of S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer is from 0dB to 30dB, with
step of 5dB.
3
Set the scale
It is used to change the ordinate scale type:
a) Press
【
Amplitude
】
→[Scale] to set the scale/div of the ordinate. Select between 0.1dB/div and
20dB/div. The default value is 10dB/div.
b) Press
【
Amplitude
】
→[Scale Log Line] to select the ordinate scale type of log or linear. Log scale is
generally in dBm, and linear scale is generally in mV.
c) Press
【
Amplitude
】
→[Amp Unit dBm>] to select the unit on the vertical axis, including [dBm],
[dBmV], [dBμV], [Volts] and [Watts].

Set the preamplifier
In order to improve the measurement accuracy of small signals, the S5105D/E/F microwave
analyzer provides a preamplifier in the full frequency band to provide a gain of about 20dB. The
preamplifier can be turned on or off by the following steps:
