Section 7 Marker searching and setting
This section introduces the methods for peak value searching and marker usage of the S5105D/E/F
microwave analyzer in the VNA mode.
1
Marker functions
The S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer in the VNA mode is provided with up to eight independent markers
for each trace for reading measurement results. Each marker can be set to the normal mode or
△
mode
with the marker off and all off function. Follow the steps below to use the marker:
a) Press
【
Mkr
】
→[Sel Mkr [1]]→[Mkr 1], [Mkr 2], [Mkr 3], [Mkr 4], [Mkr 5], [Mkr 6] or [More
Mkrs>]→[Mkr 7] and [Mkr 8] to select the marker displayed currently;
B) At this time, the marker is in the normal mode, which can be moved via the rotary knob, step key or
figure key;
c) Press
【
Mkr
】
→[Delta Mkr] to set the marker activated currently to the delta mode with amplitude
difference and frequency difference between the delta marker and reference marker shown in the
marker display area on the screen, enter the frequency value of the delta marker directly via the
figure key, or move it via the rotary knob or step key;
d) Press
【
Mkr
】
→[Close] to close the marker and marker information displayed currently, and press
[All Off] to close all markers and marker information.

Marker search
a) Press
【

】
→[Max] or [Min] to execute the max and min value function for marker searching;
b) Or conduct the searching via the peak value function by pressing [Peak]→[Peak], [Sub Peak],
[Right Peak], [Left Peak], [Max] or [Min] to execute the peak value function for marker searching;
c) Press [Peak]→[Tracking Off/On] to enable or disable the tracking function for marker searching;
d) Press [Peak]→[Advance] to pop up the advance search interface for marker searching for selecting
the marker name, searching marker type and search frequency range. Detailed parameters can be
set as required for accurate and quick marker search function.
Section 8 Measurement optimization
The section takes examples to introduce the typical applications of the VNA measurement technology,
each of which aims at different feature of the S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer. The section introduces
the following measurement methods and applications:

Add dynamic range
The dynamic range refers to the delta between the max power and min. measurable power (noise base)
that can be entered to the microwave analyzer. To ensure correct and valid measurement, the value of
the input signal must be in such range. If the signal amplitude to be measured varies largely (for example,
the out-of-band rejection of the filter), it is necessary to increase the dynamic range for measurement.
Figure 4-1 shows the dynamic range for a typical measurement.
