S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer in the VNA mode ranges from 1Hz to 100kHz, which changes at the 1,
3 or 10 steps. Reducing the IF bandwidth can lower the impact of the random noise on the
measurements (reducing 10 times of the IF bandwidth can lower the noise base by 10dB), but it can
prolong the sweep time. The microwave analyzer can set IF bandwidth for sweeping each channel or
section.
Follow the steps below to set the IF bandwidth:
Press
【
BW

→[IF BW], select from the touchscreen or press

to change the IF BW value,
and press [OK] to end it.
Press

→[Average On/Off] to set it to on or off, and switch it via the touchscreen manually.
Press

Section 5 Sweep setting
This section introduces relevant setting method for sweep of the S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer in
the VNA mode, including sweep time setting, sweep type selection and list sweep usage. Press
[Swp/Setup] to recall the sweep-related menu.
1
Set sweep time
Press [Swp/Setup]→[Sweep Auto/Man] to select the sweep time to be set automatically or manually.
After selecting Man, press the figure key, and select relevant unit to set the sweep time.
2
Set sweep points
Press [Swp/Setup]→[Points], and press relevant figure key to set the sweep point, which can range from
11 to 10001 for the S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer in the VNA mode.
3
Set sweep mode
The sweep mode of the S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer in the VNA mode can be divided into two types,
namely, linear sweep and list sweep. Linear sweep refers to sweep at linear frequency spacings with
equal frequency spacing between adjacent measurement points. List sweep indicates source frequency
sweep is conducted by the frequency range and sweep points set in the list that is edited.
Press [Swp/Setup]→[Swp Mode Lin/Lis], and select the sweep mode to be linear or list via the
touchscreen.
In the List sweep mode, the list can be edited for adding or deleting the segment by pressing
[Swp/Setup]→[Edit List>] →[Add Seg], selecting the start frequency, stop frequency, sweep points and
IF bandwidth of the segment to be edited, and entering the parameter value via the figure key. Press
[Swp/Setup]→[Edit List>], press any part of the segment to be deleted, and press [Del Seg] for deletion.
To delete all segments in the list, just press [Del All].

Sweep mode
The trigger signal is used to let the microwave analyzer conduct measurement sweep, and the trigger
setting determines the microwave analyzer sweep mode and the time to stop sweeping and enter the
holding state. The microwave analyzer provides two trigger types, namely, Single and Continuous.
Press [Swp/Setup]→[Swp Type Cont/Single], and set the trigger type to continuous or single. In the
single sweep mode, the microwave analyzer receives a trigger signal, conducts sweep once, and then
enters the holding mode. If the average function is enabled, the actual sweep times of the single sweep
function is determined by the average factor. In the continuous sweep mode, the microwave analyzer
conducts sweep continuously till it receives the signal of stopping sweeping, and enters the holding
mode. Press [Run/Hold] to switch between the sweep and hold state.
