Check the Rotational Positioning
of the Shuttle Race Guide Shaft
1
Remove the needle plate (p 55,
18
)
and feed dog (p 61,
18
)
2
Remove the bobbin case and bobbin, but
leave the retaining ring (p 36,
B
) and gib hook
(p 36,
D
) installed
3
Rotate the balance wheel until the needle
enters the shuttle (
74
)
If positioned properly, the needle is centered
in the “triangular” opening of the retaining ring
cap spring from front to back (
A
)
4
Minor adjustments can be made by loosening
the two screws (
B
) to slide the cap spring
forward or back
If more movement is required, you’ll need
to adjust the rotational positioning of the
shuttle race guide shaft (p 54)
Adjust the Rotational Positioning of the Shuttle Race Guide Shaft
1
Rotate the balance wheel until the needle enters the
shuttle (
74
)
2
With left hand, grab the shuttle race guide shaft (
D
) so
the left-right positioning doesn't change (p 49)
3
With right hand, loosen the clamp screw (
E
) slightly
NOTE: The clamp should be tight enough to keep
the shuttle race guide shaft from moving too freely
Incremental loosening works best
4
Adjust the shuttle race guide shaft (
D
) so that the
needle is positioned correctly within the retaining ring
cap spring (
A
)
5
Once you've confirmed correct positioning, tighten the
compressible timing clamp screw (
E
)
6
Finally, confirm p. 50,
70
has not shifted
You have now completed timing your Ultrafeed
