Hand held Trackball installation
Installing the Trackball
The Trackball fits a standard RS 232 port on your PC, (normally
marked Com Port 1 or Com Port 2). Ideally the mouse should
be attached to COM port 1. The serial ports are normally male
9 pin or 25 pin ‘D’ style connectors. If a 25 way port is used,
please use the supplied adaptor.
Selecting 2 or 3 button mouse mode
The Handtrack has a button on the bottom to select 2- or 3-
button mouse mode. To operate as a two button mouse, select
Microsoft. To operate as a three button mouse, select Mouse
Systems. For the changes to take effect, either reboot the
computer or type IMOUSE at the DOS prompt.
Installing the software
Turn on your computer, and insert the Handtrack driver disk
into your floppy disk drive. Change to this drive by typing ‘A’ or
‘B’. To install the software, type INSTALL [ENTER] at the DOS
prompt. The installation program will then install the software to
a default directory called IMOUSE.
When the driver software has been installed, an option of A, C
or N will be shown. This allows you to load the driver in the
(A)utoexec.bat file, (C)onfig.sys file, or (N)ot. If you select (N)ot,
the driver may be installed by typing IMOUSE at the command
prompt.
The Handtrack uses the driver supplied with Windows 3.x. To
use this driver, start Windows, select the MAIN program Group,
and then double click the WINDOWS SETUP icon. To install the
Handtrack, or to change from mode (Microsoft or Mouse
systems), select OPTIONS on the menu, then CHANGE
SYSTEM SETTINGS. By clicking on the down arrow alongside
the Mouse setting, a list of various mice are available. Either
select Microsoft (2 button mode), or Mouse Systems, (3 button
mode). (For more information, please refer to the Windows

Windows 95 is only supplied with a two button mouse driver
(Microsoft). Please refer to the Windows 95 Handbook for
installation details, or call the Technical Helpline on 01536-
402888.
Click lock key
The middle small button acts a a ‘click lock key’. When this key
is depressed, the left key will be locked to a pressed status.
Pressing the middle button will return to unpressed status. This
is useful for copying files across directories in Windows.
Testing the Handtrack
Change to the IMOUSE directory on drive C, and type TEST.
The test screen will appear. On the lower right hand corner of
the screen you will see a box. This box shows the Trackball’s
sensitivity level, IRQ configurations, and the COM port that the
Trackball is attached to.
A small pointer (shaped like a diamond in a box) will appear in
the middle of the screen. The pointers position will correspond
to the movement of the Handtrack ball. In the middle of the
screen you will see three (or four) boxes. The bottom box
indicates the co-ordinates of the pointer. By pressing each of the
Handtrack buttons, the other two (or three) boxes will darken to
indicate which button has been pressed.
To exit the program, either press ‘Q’ on the keyboard, or move
the cursor the the Quit box, and press the left hand track button.
Setting driver options
The following options are available for the Handtrack driver.
These may be applied at the DOS prompt, or added to the
IMOUSE driver statement in the CONFIG.SYS,
or
AUTOEXEC.BAT files.

This option provides a short explanation of the Handtrack and
the driver options.
Command formats:
IMOUSE/H
Communication port (N)
The communication port refers to the serial port on the
computer in which the handtrack is connected to. The
handtrack may be used on COM port 1 or COM port 2. The
default is COM port 1.
Command format:
IMOUSE 1 (for com port 1)
IMOUSE 2 (for com port 2)
Handtrack software resolution (/M)
The software resolution determines the degree of accuracy and
speed of the Handtrack’s pointers movement across the screen.
Higher resolution will cause the pointer to speed up, a lower
resolution will slow down the pointer, but will improve pointer
accuracy.
Command format:
IMOUSE/M (M = 1-9)

The communication port and software resolution may be set at
the same time, using the following command:-
