The MLE Processor also controls the MLE options, such as
Squeeze & Tease
,
Squeeze & Tease 3D
, and the
Dual Border Generator
option.
Each option lives as
a daughter board on the
Frame Processor Board
itself.
•
One “
Control Panel Processor
” within the
Synergy 1
Control Panel
itself oversees
both the large User Display and the small MLE display, and also translates button
presses into serial protocol that is sent to the frame — indicating which buttons have
been selected.
The processor also tracks which functions have been selected in the MLE,
and at a very high level, provides the frame with specific information that removes the
need for the frame to know precisely what the panel looks like.
For example, the panel does not say that button 32 has been pressed, rather, it says that
there is a request to select a circle wipe on pattern generator 2.
The frame processes the
command and sets the new state of the MLE and pattern generator.
In the case of a knob
or the positioner, the panel alerts the frame that the control is increasing or decreasing in
value.
Floppy disk and USB key storage and recall information is also handled by the
panel processor, but the data ends up in the frame.
The “
Control Panel Processor
” within the
Synergy 100 Control Panel
simply turns
LEDs on and off, and writes to the various displays on the panel.
However, the
Frame
Processor
instructs the
Control Panel Processor
which
LEDs to activate and
which
text
to display.
A Note About CPU Architecture
Virtually all of the lookup tables and all of the bits that are used to configure the hardware and map the
crosspoints are set
every single field
.
The system is in effect performing a complete memory recall
operation every single field, always guaranteeing that the control panel is set properly.
In terms of the
architecture, there is no difference between a
requested
memory recall operation and the way that the
switcher updates the panel normally — every field.
In addition to increasing the system’s reliability tremendously, this functionality also allows you to
return to the
exact
state of the panel, should a power failure occur.
Note
For system efficiency, the data on the floppy disk or USB key (such as
that contained in software upgrades and memory registers), is written
in a proprietary binary compressed format.
Compressed data is sent to
the frame where it is decompressed and processed.
Customers cannot
read the files on disk or USB key.
