Synergy 1 USB Controller Installation
This installation procedure allows you to replace the floppy disk drive in your Synergy 1 switcher
with a USB controller. This procedure is required should you wish to make use of the USB controller
functionality, which is available with version 16 and higher of the Synergy 1 SD software.
There are three main steps:
•
Replacing the EEPROM
•
Removing the Floppy Disk Drive
•
Once you begin the upgrade process, ensure that you fully complete each of the steps before returning
your switcher to service. You may also find it useful to have the

with you while performing the upgrade.
Required Materials and Tools
This section lists the materials and tools you require to complete the USB installation. Contact Ross
Video Technical Support if you are missing any materials.
You will need the following materials to complete the USB installation:
•
one USB Controller Kit (4000K-441A)
•
one 50-pin USB Data Cable (4216C-300A-01)
•
one Boot EEPROM (4216E-033-01 revision 6 or later)
•
one USB key
You will also need the following tools:
•
one medium Phillips screwdriver
•
PLCC Extraction Tool
Important
USB support requires
Synergy Software version 16
or later and a
version 5
or later
Panel CPU Board
. If your switcher does not meet
both
of these requirements, contact Ross Video Technical Support for
information on a switcher software and panel upgrade.
Caution
These procedures should be performed by qualified service personnel
only. If you are not familiar with the handling of electronic
components, please contact Ross Video Technical Support for
assistance in completing the USB controller installation.
Observe all static discharge precautions throughout the
installation.

Tip
Your Synergy 1 switcher may have shipped with a
USB Data Cable
pre-installed. If so, you can skip certain steps of the upgrade
procedure. Look for tips like this one that describe which steps may be
skipped.
