Connection Inductance
The connection inductance L
con
is caused by connecting the probe to the DUT. In
contrast to the probe-specific bandwidth, the connection inductance mainly
depends on the type of connection that the user selects.
The connection inductance
●
Increases with the length of the connection and the size of the resulting loop
area A.
●
Reduces the usable bandwidth and causes ringing with signals having a short
rise time (due a series resonance with the input capacitance).
●
Should be as small as possible (short lead length) in order to maintain high signal
integrity.
●
Long leads on the signal input are especially problematic.
