INSTALLING DECK BOARD SUPPORT BEAMS

1.

Decide on which direction you would like the deck boards to run. Deck support beams run in a perpendicular direction to the

deck boards. Support beams should be spaced, approximately, every 24” to support the deck boards. Most likely, you will

need to add a wall mounted header along the length of the pergola which will allow you to attach deck support beams which

run perpendicular to the wall. Add a 2x4 or 2x6 header along the wall with its top surface level with the top surface of the

floor lumber members.

2.

Using a pencil or marker, mark the center locations of each beam on the inside face of the floating 4x4s and the wall

mounted header to which you will attach the beams.

3.

Attached Beam Support Brackets to inner walls of floating 4x4s and the wall mounted header using #6X1” SS wood screws.

4.

Place one beam (of appropriate length to span between the floating 4x4s and the wall mounted header) inside each

matching pair of Beam Support Brackets.
