Center Bearing and Cutter Shaft Removal
1. Support and block both cutter shafts at center bearings and support the shaft which is being removed
under the drive side. Remove outer bearing as outlined in the Maintenance Section, page 5-8. Remove
both bolts fastening center bearing shields and undo external grease line. Loosen all six capscrews
fastening both center bearings and move screws out just far enough to clear the one bearing housing.
Shaft housings may drop or slide toward center and cause injury. Add sufficient support
under both cutter-shafts
2. Use floor jack to lower the center bearing side of the cutter shaft. Install all bearing mount cap screws
through center bearing to secure other shaft. It is not necessary to remove shaft if only bearing is being
serviced.
3. The center bearing is locked to the cutter shaft at two points. These set screws align with dimpled holes in
the shaft and are held in place with a thread locking compound. Remove both set screws, apply a thread
locking compound. Installation of shaft assembly is reverse of removal procedure. The bearing grease
fitting should always face down ward of machine. Install external grease line and replace bearing shield.
