Flame Rod (Procedure 9)
The flame rod is not available as a spare part. If the flame rod is faulty the entire pilot
assembly will need to be replaced (refer to procedure 5). The following procedure details
removal of the flame rod in case the flame rod requires adjusting.
1. Remove pilot shield by performing steps 1 ~ 4 of procedure 5.
2. Disconnect high tension lead from ignition rod by pulling lead away from ignition rod.
3. Remove two Phillips head screws retaining ignition rod / flame sensor clamp and
remove clamp and ignition rod.
4. Reassemble in reverse order of above.
Burner (procedure 10)
1.
Isolate water supply to heater by closing cold water inlet isolation valve located
below heater.
2.
Isolate gas supply to heater by closing gas isolation valve located below heater.
3. Remove front panel by following steps 1 ~ 2 of procedure 1.
4. Relieve system pressure by opening and then closing a hot tap, then drain the heater
by removing the cold water inlet drain plug and the hot water outlet drain plug.
5. Remove two Phillips head screws retaining pilot shield and remove pilot shield.
6. Disconnect high tension lead from ignition rod by pulling lead away from ignition rod.
7. Disconnect high tension lead from flame sensor by pulling lead away from flame
sensor.
8. Using a 9 mm spanner, remove pilot feed pipe olive from gas valve and gently pull
pilot feed pipe out from gas valve assembly.
9. Remove two Phillips head screws retaining pilot assembly mounting bracket and
remove pilot assembly complete with mounting bracket, metal spacer and pilot feed
pipe. Place assembly in a safe location.
10. Remove clamp from heat exchanger hot water outlet pipe and gently pull pipe out from
heat exchanger and rotate to the right to allow room for burner withdrawal (be careful
not to lose pipe o'ring).
11. Support burner and remove four Phillips head screws retaining burner front mounting
brackets to heat exchanger and remove both brackets.
12. Lift burner out and down to remove.
13. Reassemble in reverse order of above ensuring o'rings are clean, free from cracks and
lubricated with silicone grease if dry.
Note:
When reconnecting ignition module leads,
ensure top ignition module lead connects to ignition rod and bottom ignition module
lead connects to flame rod.
14. Start heater and check for gas leaks using a soapy water solution.
15. Purge air from premises hot taps and check for water leaks.
