5 SYSTEM OPERATION
5.1 Chapter Overview
The SeaBat 8160
system is controlled by firmware that has been pre-loaded on
the sonar processor. Information with regards to the operation of the firmware is
contained in this chapter.
5.2 Start Up Procedure
Once the SeaBat
™
hardware has been installed, the system may be started. To
do this, press the power buttons on both the sonar processor and color monitor.
Once energized, the sonar processor will start the SeaBat
™
firmware and
calibrate the electronics associated with each of the ceramic elements in the
receive array.
CAUTION
Do not power up, reboot, or calibrate the system when the sonar array is being
deployed or retracted. The mechanical noise involved will have a negative
impact on the calibration and result in inaccurate results.

When the software has successfully started, the Main Sonar Display Screen will
appear. From this screen, you may complete the following functions:
1. View the sonar image.
2. Check Range and Bearing on the sonar image.
3. Read the Date and Time.
4. Change Menu Settings.
5. Activate the BITE display.
