4.3 Channel Normalization
The channel normalization process is performed manually via the Normalization menu.
The channel normalization feature provides a method of measuring and correcting for
the gain and phase offsets for each individual electrical channel of the receiver. This is
achieved by injecting a highly stable tone into each receiver channel. The application of
the gain and phase offsets prior to beamforming improves the sidelobe suppression.
Selecting Normalize will start the channel normalization process.
o
The Normalization Status dialog is modal, which means that the
system automatically switches in and out of I/O mode during the
process; nothing else can be done while it is in progress.
o
Clicking Cancel will return the display to the previous channel
normalization state.
o
The user is also given the option of retaining the previous channel
normalization, if the new one fails.
Selecting Details from the Normalization menu will display the time and date
of the last normalization.
The current channel normalization status of the system appears on the sonar image
control portion of the Primary Display (see also
section 5.3.5 Normalization Indicator
