Tips & notes
• The USB switch saves you the hassle of inconvenient plugging in and out of USB cables,
if you intend to use a USB device alternately on more than one PC.
This also protects the sensitive USB connections of the PCs and the USB device.
• The cable length between the PC and the USB device should not exceed 5 m. The USB
switch does not count here. That means, if a cable from the PC to the switch is 3 m long
and more 3 m lead from the switch to the USB device, it makes a total of 6 m, which is
usually too much for a stable USB data connection.
Use shorter USB cables if there is an issue with the detection of the USB devices.
If an especially long USB wiring is required (for example, in a large office), use
an active extension cable (this contains special amplifier electronics for the USB
signals).
• The switch is designed for USB 2.0/1.1 devices. Connecting a USB 3.0 device delivers only
USB 2.0 speed for the data transmission.
• No driver and no power supply are required, because the USB has no integrated electron-
ics. The USB switch can be used with any operating system.

The product must not be disposed of with the household waste.

Operating instructions
4-Port USB Switch
Item no.
1368984
Intended use
The USB switch is used to manually switch among up to four PCs on one USB device. This
may be a single USB device such as, for example a USB scanner or a USB hub into which
several devices are plugged.
The switch means that inconvenient reconnecting of the USB device is no longer neces-
sary; activating a push button is sufficient.

Connection
• Connect each of the four square USB connectors type B (labelled “A”, “B”, “C” and “D”)
to a free USB port of a PC (for example port “A” with a desktop computer and port “B” to
a notebook).
• Plug your USB device (for example, a USB printer) into the rectangular USB type A con-
nector (labelled “I/O”).
Connecting a USB hub (not included) to the USB-A connector, allows you to share
more than one device.
Operation
Press any of the push buttons (A, B, C or D) at the front. A connection between the particular
PC and the connected USB device takes place over a mechanical switch inside of the USB
switch.
The push button, pushed in previously, will pop out automatically and the USB
connection is disconnected.
Important!
Press only one push button at a time!
Activating several push buttons at the same time may cause malfunctions. Basi-
cally, a USB device can only be operated on one PC and never simultaneously on
two or more PCs.
