Mounting and maintenance instruction for
ARCUSAFLEX couplings
with splined clamping bush

General

The ARCUSAFLEX coupling is a highly flexible flange coupling with axial plug-in facility by rubber teeth.

To reach an optimum adaption to the conditions of application there are three different kinds of vul-
canisates available, a natural/synthetic caoutchouc mixture as standard version up to 80°C (designation
WN, NN SN, UN), a more heat resistant mixture up to 100°C (designation WT, NT, ST) and for high
temperatures up to 130°C ambient temperature a silicon caoutchouc (designation WX). Depending on
the used elastomer it has to be insured, e.g. by adequate ventilation, that higher ambient temperatures
around the coupling are avoided.

The highly flexible ARCUSAFLEX coupling is maintenance free. However, in the context of repairing or
maintenance on other application parts like e.g. the engine or the gearbox, the coupling has to be in-
spected by visual control for damages or unusual wear.

All couplings are balanced ex work with grade G=16 for n=1500 rpm according to ISO 1940.

Mounting

1.  Prior to mounting clean all coupling parts. All connection surfaces with fitting dimensions are pre-

served with Tectyl ex work. Before installation of the coupling this surfaces, cone and toothing of the
hub and the clamping bush has to be cleaned with a suitable solvent to show bright metal. The sol-
vent for cleaning must not get in contact with the elastomer.

2.  Insert clamping bush into hub and screw in bolts loosely.

3.  Slide the pre-assembled coupling with clamping bush onto the cleaned splined shaft and put it into

the mounting position (please note arrangement in accordance with drawing Tighten the bolts by
hand.

4.  Tighten the bolts of the hub connection to the element with specified tightening torque acc. to draw-

ing or table 3.

5.  Tighten the bolts uniformly one by one step-by-step. Three steps are recommended as minimum:

with about 50%, then with about 80%, then with total specified tightening torque (tightening torque
acc. to drawing or table 2).

6.  Tighten the bolts (with washers) of the flange connection to the engine flywheel/drive with specified

tightening torque acc. to drawing or table 1.

7.  Check all screw connections regarding the tightening torques again. Hub and clamping bush must

have a fixed seating to each other and to the shaft.

8.  Plug-in mounting can take place. To impove the mounting (especially at blind plug-in) wet the surface

of the element with soft soap.

Dismounting/Element exchange

1.  Displace engine and driven machine until the coupling element is accessible.

2.  Loosen the bolts of the element and retain the element, if applicable use retaining threads. If the

elements clamps onto the hub loose the srews of the bush connection.

3.  Place the new element onto the hub like it is shown in the installation drawing. Tighten the bolts of

the hub connection to the element with specified tightening torque acc. to drawing or table 3.
