Upgrading GFS
This appendix contains instructions for upgrading GFS 5.1.x to GFS 5.2.x software and consists of
the following sections:
•

A.1. Overview of Differences between GFS 5.1.x and GFS 5.2.x
If you are upgrading from GFS 5.1.x to GFS 5.2.x, you must be familiar with the differences between
those major releases. This section provides an overview of the differences between GFS 5.1.x and
GFS 5.2.x as follows:

A.1.1. Configuration Information
GFS 5.2.x incorporates significant changes that relate to configuration information. The single con-
figuration file used in GFS 5.1.x with the
gfs_conf
command has been replaced in the GFS 5.2.x
Cluster Configuration System (CCS) with multiple configuration files and the
ccs_tool
command.
The shared device used to store configuration information, called a
CIDEV
in GFS 5.1.x, continues
to be used but is now called a
CCA device
. The
gfs_conf
command is provided with GFS 5.2.x to
allow retrieval of data from a GFS 5.1.x CIDEV and to convert it to equivalent CCS files.
Note
In GFS 5.1.x, the recommended size of the CIDEV was 2 MB. In GFS 5.2.x, the recommended size
for the CCA device is as follows: 2 KB per GFS node or 2 MB total, whichever is larger.
The GFS 5.1.x configuration file parameters following
gulmcluster
and
locktable
are not
used in the GFS 5.2.x configuration files.
Table A-1 summarizes the configuration differences between GFS 5.1.x and GFS 5.2.x.
