40. BEFORE USING THE SMOKER
40.1 Installation location of the smoker
Upon installation of the smoker, the following
must be taken into account:
•
The smoker should be placed in a place
where smoke cannot cause damage.
•
Do not use a smoker near open windows.
•
Do not use or store combustible materials,
liquids or gasses near the smoker!
•
Do not place the smoker on top of
flammable materials such as a decking
board.
•
Do not use the smoker under a canopy,
next to a wall, inside a garage, motor-
caravan or caravan, on board a boat, in an
enclosed area or indoors. Check that there
are no combustible or flammable materials
nearby. There must be at least 2 metres
(preferably more) of free space around the
smoker in all directions.
•
The smoker should be placed on a flat, firm
and horizontal surface.
•
The smoker gets hot when used. It also
radiates heat downwards. Take this into
consideration when choosing a location.
•
Do not place the smoker directly on the
lawn.
•
It is best to place the smoker on a concrete
slab.
•
Do not leave the smoker unattended
during use, even for a moment.
40.2 Preliminary heating
Before using the smoker for the first time with
food, pre-heat the product for 20 minutes in
order to remove all protective greases used
during manufacture
1. Do not pre-heat the smoker indoors. The
smoker can only be used in outdoor areas.
2. Do not use the smoke chips during pre-
heating.
3. Open the ventilation valve fully.
4. Close the front hatch.
5. Plug the power cord into an RCD power
socket and press the power switch on.
6. Adjust the power knob to full.
7. Allow the smoker to run for 20 minutes
and then turn the smoker off from the
power switch.
8. The smoke is hot after pre-heating. Allow it
to cool before moving the unit.
41. USING THE SMOKER
41.1. Preparations before using the smoker
1 Clean the chip tray from residual chips or
ash.
2 Fill the chip tray halfway with dry smoke
chips.
3 Place the chip tray and grates in place.
4 Place the drip pan on the bottom grate.
5 Place aluminium foil on the bottom of the
smoker to facilitate smoker cleaning.
6 Do not overfill the smoker with food in
order for the smoke to be able to flow
smoothly in the smoker.
7 Leave space between the food on the grate
and the walls of the smoker to help heat to
circulate in the smoker.
8 Close the smoke control valve to maintain
moisture and heat in the smoker. If you
smoke fish or dry meat, open the smoke
control valve to get the moisture out.
9 Cold weather considerably extends the
time required for smoking.
