Changing the Knife
CAUTION!
Risk of injury due to sharp objects!
The knife on the separation unit has a sharp edge that
can cause slight hand injuries through direct contact.
–
The edge should never be touched directly.
Only hold the knife by the knurled nuts and with
the blade away from your body.
NOTE!
Wearing protective gloves protects the skin from contact
with skin damaging materials. During work steps in
which you work with printing materials or cleaning
agents, we always recommend wearing protective
gloves.
The knife is a wearing part and is to be replaced at the first signs of
wear (bluntness, damage).
Required Accessories
Safety gloves, paper towels, replacement blade
Preparation
Proceed as follows to prepare for cleaning the knife:
1.
Wear protective gloves on your hands.
2.
Spread out several paper towels on the work surface.
3.
Have the spare blade ready.
4.
Open the upper hood.
5.
Remove the collection basket and place it on a paper towel.
Caution! Watch out for material dripping from the collection
basket. Hold the basket at a slight angle towards the back to
prevent material from leaking out. Also place a paper towel
directly underneath the basket opening.
6.
Open the knife protection device: Grasp the knife protection
device by the retaining tab and pull it towards your torso as far
as it will go. Now lift the device slightly and pull it completely out
of the machine. (Pay close attention to the pins to the left and
right of the knife protection device while doing so). Set it aside.
7.
Locate the knife in the machine.
8.
Grasp the knife by the black knurled thumb nuts and pull the
knife upwards out of the holder. Then place the knife on a paper
towel. Make sure that the blade is not pointing up in the air and
position the knife with the blade away from the body.
Execution
For cleaning the knife, please proceed as follows:
1.
Unscrew both knurled thumb nuts on the knife and remove
them.
2.
Detach the carrier plate with the blade from the locating bolts
and set it aside.
3.
Take the new carrier plate with the blade and place the left-
hand (L) side on the corresponding locating bolt.
4.
Fix the side by screwing in a knurled nut.
5.
Repeat these steps for the right-hand (R) side.
6.
Make sure that both nuts are tightened firmly.
7.
Now place the components back in the machine.
