2.11 Link Establishment using an R&S UPP
The following steps illustrate how to establish a connection between an R&S UPZ and
an R&S UPV.
Because the R&S UPP offers no RS232 interface the R&S UPZ has to be controlled
via USB. From variant .12 (Input Switcher) and .13 (Output Switcher) each R&S UPZ is
equipped with a USB interface.
The older variants .02/.03 which don’t offer an USB interface can be controlled by the
R&S UPP by usage of a conventional USB-COM adapter cable.
During the installation of the R&S UPV firmware, a driver for controlling the R&S UPZ
via USB is installed automatically. The USB interface is listed as “USB Serial Port” in
the Device Manager and maps the USB chip inside the R&S UPZ to a virtual COM
Port.
