This chapter provides the installation instructions for the optional
duplexer and feeder. It also discusses the merits of having additional
media cassettes. These options are available for purchase from your
QMS vendor. See appendix A, “QMS Customer Support,” for sales
and support information.

The optional duplexer allows you to print on both sides of the page on
any media up to 11x17. However, printing duplex at 600x600 or
1200x1200 dpi resolutions may require additional memory. (See the
memory tables in chapter 3, “Advanced Printing Features,” of the
Operation manual for each resolution/media size memory require-
ment.

Caution: Due to the curved path of the duplexer, only paper between
17 and 28 lbs (63.92 g/m
2
and 67.68 g/m
2
) should be used.
Envelopes, transparencies, and labels can’t be used when duplexing.

Caution: This hardware change automatically restores defaults. If
your memory settings are specific for your environment, print an
advanced status page before making this hardware change, so you
can recover these memory settings.
Follow these steps when installing the duplexer:
1 Remove the duplexer from its box and remove all the pack-
ing materials.
2 Turn off the printer and remove the power cord.
3 Remove the interface cables.
