Chapter 4: Installing Software Drivers

FreeBSD 4.x

Install Driver During New OS Installation 

1.

Boot your computer from the FreeBSD install CD. 

2.

When the screen displays “Booting [kernel] in X seconds...”, press any key 
except Enter to enter the OK prompt. 

3.

Insert the FastTrak driver diskette into your floppy drive. 

4.

Under the ok prompt, type the following commands:

set currdev=disk1 
load sx.ko 
set currdev=disk0s4a 
boot 

5.

Remove the FastTrak driver diskette. Continue the installation process 
normally.

6.

When the installation is complete, do NOT exit. Instead, press Alt+F4 to 
switch to another screen. 

7.

Again insert the FastTrak driver diskette into your floppy drive and type the 
following commands: 

mount /dev/fd0 /mnt 
/mnt/install 
umount /mnt 

and wait the commands to finish. 

8.

Remove the FastTrak driver diskette and press Alt+F1. 

9.

Exit the installation. 

Note:

 Check the readme file, included with the downloaded driver files, for 

instructions on installing the RAID Console.

Specify SX4030 or SX4060 as a SCSI Device 

1.

Copy the sx.ko file to the /modules directory. 

2.

Type the following commands: 
kldload sx.ko 
camcontrol rescan all 
The RAID targets on the FastTrak card should be detected as SCSI devices.
