5.4 Starting up Hot-Plug PCI Slots
In addition to standard slots, the server also has hot-plug PCI slots. These hot-
plug PCI slots allow boards to be installed and removed online assuming the
operating system supports this functionality.
Every hot-plug PCI slot is assigned two indicators that signal the current status
of the slot. The indicators are visible on PCI slots 3 and 4 and on the back of the
server.
The possible indicator modes and their meanings are explained in table 2 on
page 68 and table 3 on page 69 .
If it is attempted to remove the relevant board despite the illuminated green
indicator, the slot is automatically powered off to protect the board and the
system from any damage.
The hot-plug functionality is supported by the currently available Windows
operating systems.

The hot-plug functionality is not supported by all available operating
systems.
The PCI hot-plug software ( PCI Card HotReplace) is located on the ServerStart
disc 1 supplied or is installed with the ServerView agent. You will find additional
information on installation and operation in the README file for the PCI Hot
Plug Software on the
ServerStart disc 1.
PCI components may only be installed and removed by personnel with the
appropriate technical training.
