Interaction with the PDS
ID, LX and AJ BOAJ Interaction with the PDS: Amendments
The NHAIS system will update the PDS directly for any amendments to the following
data items on the NHAIS system:
•
Name, including the surname, forenames and title
•
Address
o
Address lines 1–5
o
Postcode
o
PAF key
•
Sex
•
Date of Birth
•
GP Practice Code.
ID and LX Screens
After you have entered the initial patient data, the NHAIS system will first validate the
data up to but not including the display of any query messages. When the input has
been successfully validated, a retrieval request is submitted to the PDS in an attempt to
retrieve the patient’s current details from the PDS.
NOTE

You will not see any messages to tell you that this is happening; you may
notice that the cursor flashes in the bottom right hand corner of the screen
for a few seconds whilst the retrieval is taking place.
Updating the PDS
The NHAIS system will then format and send a message to update the PDS directly
with any new details about the patient which were included in the amendment.
The NHAIS system will update only those data items which need to be updated; it will
not send a blanket update to PDS for all the data items included in the amendment.
No Response (Timeout) or Error Messages Received from the PDS (Retrieval)
A pop-up box, shown below, is displayed if no response is received from the PDS
because a timeout limit has been reached.
