Address Matching/Linking and HA/GP Links applications cannot use an Address
Code unless there is a corresponding entry within the Address Table containing
locality, town and county.
Post Town / County
The patient’s postal town and county. These fields should be left blank if an Address
Code has been used.
Postcode
The postcode must be at least six characters long, and must correspond to the
patient’s thoroughfare/locality details. If the patient’s address is amended, the
postcode must be updated to reflect the changed address. If the new address uses the
same postcode, overtype this field.
Ensure that postcode details are correct. Postcodes are used to identify
underprivileged areas. GPs receive an extra fee, linked to the deprivation code,
because it is believed that patients resident in underprivileged areas have special
health needs.
Matching
If a unique match is found but the postcode is different, the patient address will be
updated with the PAF postcode. The postcode can only be amended if the address is
set to an Unlinked status.
If a unique match cannot be found and the address is amended, the postcode will be
removed. In this instance the postcode may be re-entered.
NOTE
Entry of a postcode may be mandatory. This is controlled by the
parameters set on the SP-U screen.
Dep
This is a read only field.
Jarman scores are used to identify underprivileged areas in England and Wales.

Link Status

will be blank. It will remain blank until

is pressed.
Before update, the field will indicate the type of match found.
After update, the field will indicate the type of link made.
