PMI Terminations should only be used if they meet the following criteria:
•
The termination has not been visually damaged or exposed to heat,
direct
fl
ame impingement or abrasion
• The termination has not been subjected to any impact load
• The termination has not been exposed to liquids, solids, gases,
mists, or vapors of any chemical or other material that can
deteriorate the termination
•
The termination passes inspection when inspected by a qualified
person following the inspection procedures below before and after
each use
USE CRITERIA FOR TERMINATIONS
• In addition to inspection before and after each use, the terminations should
also be inspected by a qualified person as part of a detailed, periodic
inspection program. This detailed inspection should occur, as a minimum,
every 6 months.
• Because the terminations are part of a life safety rope product, refer to
the enclosed rope instructions for the inspection and maintenance of the
cordage.
• The inspection of terminations should be documented as part of the rope
inspection. An example of an appropriate rope inspection log addendum is
provided.
•
Termination specific inspection criteria:
The loop should be inspected for visible wear such as abrasion, cuts,
or fraying
Sewn terminations should be inspected for worn or broken thread
Swaged terminations should be inspected for wear at the contact
points of the swage and the rope as well as inspecting the swage
material for cracks or deformations
