Removal/Installation of the Backshells and Modules
Wear an ESD wrist strap Figure 1 [10] connected to the MAU ground connector when you remove or
install the backshells Figure 1 [7] and the module Figure 1 [2].
Do not touch the module circuit board or the electrical connector pins. The module Figure 1 [2] can be
held at its faceplate frame Figure 1 [4] or its jack screws Figure 1 [5].
Put protective covers on the connectors of the MAU module Figure 1 [2] and put the MAU module
Figure 1 [2] in approved ESD-protective packing for transportation.

Removal
2.1
Make sure that all electrical power is removed from the aircraft:
2.1.1
De-energize the aircraft electrical system, refer to AMM 12-B-24-00-00-00A-901A-A.
2.1.2
Put warning notices at the overhead control panel in the flight compartment and at the External Power
Unit (EPU) connector, ‘DO NOT CONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER’.
2.2
Do the MAU removal procedure, refer to AMM 12-B-31-41-00-00A-920A-A to get access to the
module Figure 1 [2] but do not remove the backshells Figure 1 [7].
2.3
CAUTION
USE AN ESD WRIST STRAP AND CONNECT IT TO GROUND ON THE MAU BEFORE YOU
REMOVE THE BACKSHELLS AND THE MODULES.
Disconnect the backshell Figure 1 [7] from the module Figure 1 [2] to be removed as follows:
2.3.1
Turn the captive bolt Figure 1 [8] on the backshell Figure 1 [7] counterclockwise until it disengages
from the module Figure 1 [2].

Disengage the backshell hook Figure 1 [6] from the module Figure 1 [2] and move the backshell
Figure 1 [7] away from the MAU Figure 1 [1].
2.3.4
If the MAU module Figure 1 [2] is not to be replaced immediately, put a protective cover on the
backshell Figure 1 [7].
2.4
Remove the applicable module Figure 1 [2] as follows:
2.4.1
Record the direction (up or down) of the reference arrow on the module Figure 1 [2].
2.4.2
CAUTION
TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE MODULE AND THE MAU, TURN THE JACK SCREWS ON
THE MODULE GRADUALLY AND EQUALLY TO MOVE THE MODULE FROM ITS SLOT.
Turn the jack screws Figure 1 [5] counterclockwise gradually and equally until the module Figure 1 [2]
is released from its MAU slot.
2.4.3
CAUTION
DO NOT TOUCH THE CIRCUIT BOARD OR THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR PINS ON THE
MODULE.
Hold the jack screws Figure 1 [5] tightly and remove the module Figure 1 [2] from the MAU slot.
