LIFEPAK 12 Coin-cell battery replacement
Besides the Time and date, the LIFEPAK 12 has a coin-cell battery that holds both
hardware and user configurations in its NVRAM. The main batteries and/or the
separate power supply allow power-on access to setting user configuration, but will
not hold the memory when the coin-cell is removed. Physio-Control, Inc.
recommends replacing the LIFEPAK 12 coin-cell at 5-year intervals to avoid costly
service rep intervention. During replacement, it is imperative to maintain power
across the coin-cell slot.
First, here is a drawing that indicates the orientation of the coin-cell battery, the
connector where ground is accessed, and the placement of the surrogate power
supply:
Connect your negative lead to pin 1 of the two rows of test-points on the header
near the bottom of the System PCBA. Connect the positive lead to the clip that
holds the battery into the coin-cell slot – this is the positive side.
Use of non-conductive tools is always recommended to avoid delivery of unwanted
power to susceptible components.
