Communication
Control applications are designed using the nanoNavigator configuration software.
Communication between the Nanoline base unit and a PC is required to download these
control applications. The application can also be monitored using nanoNavigator.
Nanoline products can also be connected to other devices with the optional NLC-COM-
ENET-MB1 (Ethernet), NLC-COM-GSM (GSM) or NLC-COM-CELLULAR-CDMA
(Verizon
®
cellular) communication modules. Communication is via the Modbus
®
RTU or
Modbus TCP protocol (Ethernet module) or SMS messaging.

Serial connections
The Nanoline provides flexibility in connecting to other devices and networks through serial
communication. Serial communication connects the controller to a PC for downloading or
monitoring an application. Serial connection is accomplished through an option module
installed on the base unit, either RS-232, RS-485 or USB.
An additional option for data transfer allows downloading of a control application from a PC
running nanoNavigator to a memory module through a USB port. The memory module can
be inserted into a base unit and the control application saved to the on-board memory. The
memory module can be removed from the base unit.
When using the RS-232 or RS-485 module, the controller can exchange data using the
Modbus RTU protocol.

The NLC-COM-CELLULAR-CDMA module is licensed and approved for use on a Verizon
network.
Refer to the UM EN NLC-COM-GSM User Manual (2759) for specific information on
configuration of the NLC-COM-GSM and NLC-COM-CELLULAR-CDMA modules.
