PSI-MODEM-SHDSL/ETH
With the Ethernet extender
PSI-MODEM-SHDSL/ETH
, Ethernet devices are easily net-
worked with one another. A distance of up to 20 km can lie between two devices. Transmis-
sion speeds of up to 30 Mbps are possible.
Any cables, e.g., in-house phone lines, can be used for the remote communication. No spe-
cial Ethernet or fiberglass cables are required. The Ethernet extenders can be used to es-
tablish point-to-point and line structures. Ring structures are also possible as of firmware
version 3.0.
It is
not
necessary to assign an IP address to start up the Ethernet extender. Like a media
converter, the Ethernet extender uses a transparent protocol. The DSL data rate is detected
automatically. The transmit and receive cables in the Ethernet cable are crossed automati-
cally.
For most applications, the Ethernet extender does not need to be configured (plug and
play). In all other cases, the PSI-CONF configuration software is available free of charge. To
configure the Ethernet extender, it only needs to be supplied with current via the USB inter-
face.
For quick local path diagnostics, the Ethernet extender features LEDs on the device front,
an integrated diagnostic function, and a log book. In addition, the extender has two digital
outputs for transmitting status messages to devices such as a controller.
Areas of application
The Ethernet extender is designed to retrofit remote systems with Ethernet via an existing
cable infrastructure.
For example in the industries:
–
Water and wastewater
–
Process engineering
–
Large-area industrial systems
–
Traffic technology
–
Railroads
–
Energy technology
–
Photovoltaics
–
Wind energy
–
Building technology
–
Mining
In addition, it can be used to enable Ethernet communication via a slip ring. On Page 30, we
show an example of rotating applications where communication is built up redundantly by
means of fiber optic and copper lines.
