Additional functions with firmware 3.1
–
After new settings have been downloaded, the devices reboot. The logbooks are main-
tained. If connections were not modified, they remain intact and can continue to be
used for data transmission.
–
The devices can be operated in hub mode. In hub mode, you can build up a redundant
fiber optic path via externally connected switches (see “Redundancy via parallel fiber
–
The maximum Ethernet packet length was increased to 2047 bytes.

Additional functions with firmware 3.0
Ring structure without managed switch
To establish a ring structure, just connect the devices as a ring. It is not necessary to assign
an IP address to start up the Ethernet extender. It uses a transparent protocol like a simple
media converter.
In the ring, the path with the worst transmission features is not used. It serves as an alterna-
tive path in the event of an error.
Remote diagnostics and remote configuration
With the configuration software, you can also access remote Ethernet devices and config-
ure or diagnose these.
If defective remote configuration prevents the connection from being established initially,
after a short time the corresponding devices automatically switch into a special emergency
mode. In this mode, the devices establish the connection again automatically so that they
can continue to access the remote devices.
Firmware update
With the configuration software, all accessible Ethernet extenders can be updated at once
with a firmware update.
When using the current firmware version 3.1 and the latest PSI-CONF configuration soft-
ware, the following functions are additionally available.
Firmware and configuration software can be downloaded free of charge at
.
As of firmware 3.0, you can install all topologies
without
configuration. The installed
topology is detected automatically.
