AIR SYSTEM
components that have typically been
installed separately on the vehicle (see
below for components/areas affected).
•
Pressure protection valves
•
Safety valve
•
Governor and plumbing
•
Plumbing of the front and rear
service air tanks
•
Plumbing to accessory systems
These components are required to
meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standards (FMVSS 121 - Air Brake
Systems). As the Warning above
states, any other type of air dryer
installed in the place of an AD-IS Series
will require changes, modifications
and/or additions to your vehicle’s air
system to maintain compliance with
FMVSS 121.
Air Tanks
To eject moisture from the air system
tanks, pull the line that is connected to
the moisture ejection valve. Continue
pulling until the air comes out free of
water.
Daily:
The supply and service air
tanks, must be drained on a daily
basis. Operate air devices daily to
circulate lubricants within the unit.
Periodically:
Clean filter screens
ahead of the valves by removing the
screens and soaking them in solvent.
Blow them dry with pressurized air
before reinstalling them.
WARNING!
If the supply and service air tanks
are not drained at the recommended
frequency, water could enter the
air lines and valves.
This could
cause corrosion or blockage, which
could compromise the brake system
safety and potentially cause an ac-
cident. Failure to comply may result
in death, personal injury, equipment
or property damage.
CAUTION
Do not use penetrating oil, brake
fluid, or wax-based oils in the air sys-
tem. These fluids may cause severe
damage to air system components.
•
Maintain the air compressor to
prevent excessive oil bypass.
•
Replace worn seals in valves and
air motors as they are needed.
