Techniques for Collecting IR Images and
Spectra
This chapter describes how accessories and collection techniques enable you to collect
images and spectra from different types of sample.
The main steps required to scan an image, from loading the sample to selecting the area you
wish to scan are outlined below. For further information see the on-screen Help.
NOTE: Image mode must be selected in the Control window in the SpectrumIMAGE software
before you can scan an image.
1. In the Stage Control window, click , or select
Load Position
from the GoTo menu
to drive the sample stage to the loading position.
2. Position the sample in the center of the sample stage.
3. Click , or display the GoTo menu and select
Center of Stage
to drive the sample
stage so that the sample is in the center.
4. To focus the visible image displayed in the Monitor Visible window, use the Z-control on
the joystick or the
Focus
control on the Control window.
5. The Monitor Visible window displays only the field of view of the imaging system, which
is a small area. Select a default survey size from the View menu in the Stage Control
window and then start the survey by selecting
Visible Image Survey
from the Survey
menu in the Stage Control window.
A visible image is collected and displayed in the Stage Control window.
NOTE: To get an overall picture of your sample, click in the Stage Control window.
6. Using the joystick, move to a clear area that you wish to use for the background.
7. In the Stage Control window, click .
8. Check the settings in the Scan Image Background dialog and then click
Start
to begin
scanning.
9. Using the joystick, move back to the region you want to scan.
10. In either the Monitor Visible window or the Stage Control window, draw a grow box
around the area you want to scan.
