If, for any reason, you want to stop scanning your sample, click
.
You can use the Sample Shuttle Accessory (L1200302) to set up an interleaved cycle scan so
that you do not have to open the sample compartment between the background and sample
scans. This helps to reduce changes in the concentration of carbon dioxide and water vapor
in the sample compartment. Set the
Scan Type
to
Interleaved
on the Setup Instrument
Basic tab. See the Spectrum on-screen Help for more information.
Changing the instrument range
You can change the instrument range from, for example MIR to NIR, using Spectrum
software. Changing ranges requires the instrument to change the detector, beamsplitter and,
for the Frontier FT-IR/FT-NIR only, source in concert.
NOTE: Depending on the beamsplitters and detectors fitted, the instrument may require
some time to equilibrate after changing ranges.
1.
Select the Setup menu and then click
Instrument
.
The Setup Instrument tabs are displayed.
2.
Select the Setup Instrument BeamPath tab.
The
Mode
field in the settings table, shown here as
MIR
, displays the current range.
NOTE: The
Mode
option is also available in the Instrument Settings toolbar.
3.
Select the range you wish to change to from the drop-down list.
The options are
MIR
,
NIR
or
Custom
for the Frontier FT-IR/FT-NIR spectrometer, or
MIR
,
FIR
or
Custom
for the Frontier FT-IR/FT-FIR spectrometer.
If you select
MIR
,
NIR
or
FIR
, the Source, Beamsplitter, Detector, Window and
Optimum Scan Range fields will be updated. If you select
Custom
, the Source,
Beamsplitter and Detector options can be selected independently. The Optimum Scan
Range and Window fields will update for the combination you have selected.
NOTE: Some combinations may damage the instrument, and will not be allowed.
4.
Click the
Apply
button or click
Scan
to change the range.
If you have a Frontier FT-IR/FT-FIR spectrometer, you will be prompted to change the
windows. Change the windows (as described in
Replacing the Frontier FT-IR/FT-FIR
on page 61) and then click
Scan
.
While the instrument is changing range, you will not be able to collect data. The range
change is monitored by messages in the Status Bar.
