19.6 Functional characters for external control
Use these functional characters to configure the marking data depending on the control
method (via I/O signals, communication commands or network communication).
The following external input functions cannot be set together in one file:
• Character entry by
SIN
command and Register function (registered characters switching
via I/O connector)
• Character entry by
SIN
command and Marking offset via I/O signal
• Register function (registered characters switching via I/O connector) and Marking offset
by
SEO
command
Register function (registered characters switching via I/O connector) and character entry by
SIN
command are not available in RUN mode.
Register function (registered characters switching via I/O connector) and character entry by
SIN
command are not available for marking at regular intervals and multiple trigger mode.

For details about the register function (registered characters switching via I/O connector),
refer to the “Setup and Maintenance Guide”.
Settings
Specify the settings in the “External control” tab of the “Functional characters” dialog.
• “Registered characters (via I/O connector)”:
Select this function to switch character strings using the inputs D0 IN to D15 IN of the I/
O connector. The character strings must be configured in advance and assigned to the
numbers that correspond to the inputs D0 IN to D15 IN. The marking data is selected
from D0 IN to D15 IN using I/O signals.
‒ “Registration table No.”:
Before you set a functional character for registered characters, you must configure
the parameters of the registration table in the “Function settings” tab.
Select the table number that you configured in the “Function settings” tab.
Setting range: Depends on the settings for “Input method” in the “Function settings”
tab.
— For “Input method” > “8-bit x 2”: “0 (D0-D7)”, “1 (D8-D15)”
— For “Input method” > “4-bit x 4”: “0 (D0-D3)”, “1 (D4-D7)”, “2 (D8-D11)”, “3 (D12-
D15)”
• “Characters specified by SIN command”:
Select this option to use the character entry by
SIN
command for character objects and
bar code/2D code objects. Send the
SIN
command for each marking process.
