4.1 Troubleshooting
4.1.1 Introduction
The CTF878 is a reliable instrument that is easy to maintain. It will provide accurate flow measurement readings as
long as it is operated as described in this manual. If problems do arise with the electronics, the pipe, the fluid, or the
transducers, the CTF878 displays an error message specifying the possible problem. The CTF878 also has a set of
diagnostic parameters to help you find and remedy the problem.
In general, troubleshooting may be necessary if the CTF878 displays an error message, the flow readings are erratic,
or you have other reasons to doubt the accuracy of readings (for example, readings do not agree with other flow
measuring devices connected to the same process).
This section describes error messages and diagnostic parameters, and shows you how to isolate problems to one of
the following areas:

Electronics, including programmed values
• Pipe and fluid
• Transducers and cables.
4.1.2 Error Code Messages
Error Code messages appear on the screen while you are displaying measurements. When logs appear in graph
form, errors are indicated by a vertical gray bar at the point of error. When they appear in a spreadsheet format,
errors are indicated by their number, in place of the measurement. The Error Code messages are only general
descriptions of the possible problems. Use Table 4 on page 4 to isolate and remedy the problem. If you are unable to
remedy the problem, contact the factory.
