after transport), do not switch it on immediately. Moisture and condensation could
damage the equipment. Do not switch on the equipment until it has reached room
temperature.

23.  Do not step on the power cord. Make certain that the power cable does not become

kinked, especially at the mains outlet and/or power adapter and the equipment con-
nector.

24.  When connecting the equipment, make certain that the power cord or power adapter

is always freely accessible. Always disconnect the equipment from the power supply
if the equipment is not in use or if you want to clean the equipment. Always unplug
the power cord and power adapter from the power outlet at the plug or adapter and
not by pulling on the cord. Never touch the power cord and power adapter with wet
hands.

25.  To disconnect the equipment from the power mains completely, unplug the power

cord or power adapter from the power outlet.

26.  Unplug the power cord and power adapter from the power outlet if there is a risk of a

lightning strike or before extended periods of disuse.

CAUTION – HIGH VOLUME LEVELS WITH AUDIO PRODUCTS!

This equipment is intended for professional use. Therefore, commercial use of this equip-
ment is subject to the respectively applicable national accident prevention rules and
regulations. As a manufacturer, Adam Hall is obligated to notify you formally about the
existence of potential health risks. Hearing damage due to high volume and prolonged
exposure: When in use, this product is capable of producing high sound-pressure levels
(SPL) that can lead to irreversible hearing damage in performers, employees, and audi-
ence members. For this reason, avoid prolonged exposure to volumes in excess of 90 dB.

SCOPE OF APPLICATION

The PLI-04 was developed for special requirements in the media field.
It provides an easy way to connect PCs and other consumer devices with unbalanced
outputs to a professional PA system with balanced inputs, for the purpose of a presentation,
for example...

The PLI-04 is designed for stereo operation. A switch also allows for the mono playback on
both output channels.

As inputs, the usual jacks are available: TRS jack which accepts both mono and stereo
jack plugs, RCA socket and a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack input, e.g. in order to connect
headphone outputs from laptops. Outputs are provided for the customary XLR/m sockets
with transformer-balanced circuitry for professional equipment.

CONNECTORS

Connect the line outputs left/right of the device to be connected to the sound system
with the inputs of the PLI-04, using shielded cables and the appropriate connectors. On
computer sound cards, you can usually find RCA sockets with right and left separation
or a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack. On laptops, the output socket can often be used for head-
phones. This is frequently also a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack. With the existing volume knob
or by software, a level adjustment is possible. HiFi devices like CD players almost always
have RCA outputs.

A simultaneous usage of both inputs such as jack and RCA on one channel is not rec-
ommended due to potential interaction. The outputs of the PLI-04 are connected to the
microphone input of the mixer using a shielded balanced microphone cable. Two micro-
phone channels are necessary for stereo playback, and with the help of the panoramic
bridge, a channel is routed to the left, the other to the right.

IMPORTANT: When using a single channel, the channel with the red RCA socket should be
used since the grounding of the housing is done via its output jack.

MONO SWITCH

When pressed, a pressure switch, located between the two XLR output jacks, mixes a
mono signal from the stereo signal by means of a transfer matrix circuit. The output signal
is available on the two XLR sockets. In this way, you can use the PLI-04 as a split box and
split a mono signal to an input jack on both XLR outputs. However, the galvanic separa-
tion takes place only between input and output. The two XLR sockets are not galvanically
isolated from one another.

Ground Lift Switch

A galvanic (electrically conductive) connection between mains powered devices is usu-
ally undesirable because it can lead to so-called ground loop hum. This manifests itself
in low-frequency hums caused by compensation currents on the grounding. Also, when
connecting computers to external audio devices, there is a risk of noise, due to the high
frequency of computer currents on the grounding.
