Special precautions relating to kickback
Kickback can occur if the nose or tip of the guide bar comes into
contact with an object or if the wood pinches on the guide bar.
Contact with the tip of the guide bar can cause the guide bar to kick
upwards, towards the operator. If the wood pinches along the top of
the guide bar, the guide bar can be forced backwards, towards the
operator. In both cases you risk losing control of the chainsaw which
may result in serious personal injury.
Never solely trust in the built-in safety measures. As the user of the
chainsaw, you must take separate measures to ensure against
accidents and injury.
1.
By having a basic understanding of chainsaw kickback you can reduce or completely
eliminate the element of surprise. Sudden movements cause accidents.
2.
Keep a firm hold of both handles, your right hand on the rear handle and your left
hand on the front handle when the engine is running. Keep a firm grip with thumbs
and fingers wrapped around the handles. A firm grip helps to reduce kickback and to
maintain control of the chainsaw.
3.
Ensure that the area in which the work is to be done is free of obstacles. Never allow
the tip of the guide bar to come into contact with trunks, branches or other obstacle as
you can risk being hit while the chainsaw is operating.
4.
Always saw with high rpm.
5.
Do not overstretch and do not saw above shoulder height.
6.
Follow the manufacturers recommendations relating to
sharpening and maintenance of the chain.
7.
Only use original or compatible guide bars and chains, cf. the
manufacturer’s recommendations.
