24 Engaging The Cantilever On The Sample
Prerequisite: The sample must be loaded and the cantilever positioned about 1 mm above the
sample.
Loading the cantilever and sample on a standard scanner on page 198 .
Loading the cantilever and sample on an environmental scanner on page 205 .
Before you can perform imaging, you must engage the cantilever on the sample surface. This task
comprises three parts:
1. Bringing the cantilever tip to the sample.
2. Tuning the cantilever and setting scan parameters.
3. Landing the tip.
24.1 Bringing the cantilever close to the sample
