TING
Bow down
Too much trim-in or down can:
–
Lower the bow.
–
Result in quicker planing off, especially
with a heavy load or a stern heavy boat.
–
In excess, can lower the bow of some
boats to a point where they begin to plow
with their bow in the water while on plane.
This can result in an unexpected turn in
either direction (called bow steering or
oversteering) if any turn is attempted, or if
a significant wave is encountered.
NOTE!
Depending on type of boat, the
outboard trim angle might have little effect on
the trim of the boat during operation.
POWER TILT OPERATION
If the outboard will be shut-off for a longer
period or if the boat is moored in shallow water,
the outboard should be tilted up. This is to
protect the propeller and lower housing from
damage by collision with obstructions, and also
to reduce salt corrosion.
!
WARNING
Make sure that the boat’s occupants are
clear of the outboard when adjusting the tilt
angle. Body parts can be crushed between
the outboard and the clamp bracket when
the outboard is trimmed or tilted.
!
CAUTION
Never tilt the outboard while the engine is
running. This could result in severe engine
and PTT-unit damage.
!
CAUTION
Make sure all the water intake holes stay
submerged at all times. Risk for severe
damage from overheating!
