5.1 Anti-tipper

Risk of falling as a result of incorrectly set anti-tipper.
Theanti-tipperwheelmustatleastcompletely
extendfromtherearwheeltotheback.Thespacebetweenthefloorandloweredgeoftheanti-tipper
wheelsmustnotexceed5cm.
Aftermakingadjustments,theanti-tippermustsnapinplaceinthenewpositionwithanaudibleclick.
CAUTIOn
Risk of tipping.
Neverdriveoverobstacles(stepsandkerbs)ataslantangle.Alwaysapproachob-
staclesstraightly(atanangleof90°).
Theanti-tipperallowsthewheelchairusertosafelyovercomethresholdsanddroppedkerbs
withoutthehelpofanattendant.Itpreventsthewheelchairfromtippingtoofarbackward.
Theanti-tippercanbeadjustedinlengthwithouttheneedfortools,dependingupontheseat
heightandseatangle(Fig.17,itemA).
Mountingoftheanti-tipperisstronglyrecommendedforuntrainedwheelchairusersaswellas
whenextremeadjustmentshavebeenmadetotherearwheel.
5.1.1 Using the Anti-tipper
a) negotiating thresholds / dropped kerbs
Whenascendinganobstacle,theanti-tipperwheelshitthegroundandpreventthewheelchair
fromtippingovertotherear.
b) negotiating steps / undropped kerbs

Pleasenotethatanattendantisrequiredtoassistwithnegotiatingstepsandundropped
kerbs.
Beforetiltingthewheelchairinordertogetoverundroppedkerbsorsteps,theattendantmust
disengagetheanti-tipperbyrotatingittoanupwardsposition.Thispreventstheanti-tipperfrom
gettingdamaged.
Todisengagetheanti-tipper,pressthespringbuttonofthetripodspringandturnuptheanti-
tipperby180°(Fig.17,itemB)untilitlocksinplace.
Nowthewheelchaircanbemovedovertheobstacleforwards/backwards.

pressthespringbuttonofthetripodspringandturndowntheanti-tipperbyapprox.180°untilitlocks
