Firmware
The 1101 firmware resides in an FPGA that manages the hardware interface be-
tween the PCI or PCIe bus and OPTIMOD-PC. A firmware upgrade, which is done via
Orban’s
1101_Firmware_Updater.exe
application, may be required to support a
given OPTIMOD-PC software upgrade—refer to the software upgrade’s readme file.
.
If you attempt to open a card in the Control Application and this card is running
out-of-date firmware, the Control Application will issue an error message stating
that you must upgrade the firmware to a version that is compatible with the soft-
ware.
As of version 3.0.0 software, OPTIMOD-PC longer uses an IRQ in the host computer.
In addition to making more computer resources available to other components, this
improvement allows undisturbed high-performance audio operation in any PCI/PCIe
slot, including PCI/PCIe expansion chassis. The accompanying changes in the firm-
ware and driver increase reliability and compatibility with various computers and
extender chassis. We urge all 1101/1101e users to download and install the firmware
and driver upgrades to insure future compatibility.
Hardware I/O and PCI Expansion Chassis
The OPTIMOD-PC driver and software are not necessary to permit a card to pass au-
dio from its physical input(s) to output(s). OPTIMOD-PC cards powered from an ex-
ternal PCI expansion chassis continue to pass audio in the absence of the host com-
puter or in the event of its failure. However, the driver and service
are
required to
initialize the card.
