OPERATION
ORBAN MODEL 8600Si
Using the 8600Si PC Remote Control Software
8600Si PC Remote control software allows you to access any 8600Si control, includ-
ing all of the Advanced Modify controls that are unavailable from the 8600Si’s front
panel. Because only simplified adjustments are available from the 8600Si front pan-
el, you must use PC Remote for custom preset development.
PC Remote also gives you the ability to backup user presets, system files, and auto-
mation files on your computer’s storage devices (hard drives, floppy drives, etc.) and
to restore them later to your 8600Si.
The 8600Si PC Remote software can connect to your 8600Si via modem, direct serial
cable connection, or Ethernet network. It communicates with your 8600Si via the
TCP/IP protocol, regardless of how it is connected to your 8600Si.
PC Remote works best on displays of 1024x768 pel or higher. Scroll bars
will appear when using lower resolutions.
Before running 8600Si PC Remote, you must have installed the appropriate Win-
dows communications services on your computer. By default, the installer installs a
shortcut to 8600SiPC.exe on your desktop and in your Start Menu under
Orban\Optimod 8600Si.
8600Si PC Remote can control only one 8600Si at a time, but it can readily switch be-
tween several 8600Si. 8600Si PC Remote has a built-in “address book” that allows it
to select and connect to:
•
any 8600Si on the same network as the PC,
•
a 8600Si that can be accessed through a modem connected to the PC via dial-up
networking, and,
•
a 8600Si that is connected directly to the PC’s serial port.
Before your PC can communicate with a given 8600Si, you must first set up a “con-
nection,” which is information that allows PC Remote to locate and communicate
with the 8600Si.
