Introducing the 1645

Upgrading the software

Some devices are equipped with boot, loader and application software, while others only have boot and
application software:

• The boot software takes care of the initial phase in the start-up sequence of the device. It is located

on the lowest software level.

• The loader software takes care of the second phase in the start-up sequence of the device. It is

located on the middle software level.

• The application software, also called control software or firmware, completely controls the device. It

is located on the highest software level.

How to upgrade the device software, has been described in detail in:

• the TMA Quick Start Guide (

), for upgrading with TMA.

• the Maintenance Tools manual (

), for upgrading with the other tools mentioned in this chapter.
