AM MENU
Processing in Intermediate Mode
Intermediate mode brings out nearly all of the available controls to the front panel except for those rarely used
outside of creating factory presets. Switching to and from Intermediate mode is done in the
AM > Processing >
About Preset
menu.
Even though there is an Expert mode that opens up even more controls, there is no shortage of them at the
Intermediate level. There is rarely a good case for moving beyond Intermediate mode as it provides a very high level
of customization and power. Used skillfully, that power can let you really fine tune the sound of Omnia.7. Used
incorrectly, however, it can produce some unexpected or undesirable results. We strongly encourage you to read
and understand this chapter to prevent such a fate!
The
Processing
menu in Intermediate mode includes sixteen sub-menus:
Load Preset, Save Preset, Preset Protec-
tion, About Preset, Downward Expanders, Input AGC, Wideband AGC 1, Parametric Equalizer, Multiband Setup,
Multiband AGC, Multiband Thresholds, Dry Voice Detection, Wideband AGC 2, Band Mix, Clipper,
and
Bypass.
The
Load Preset, Save Preset, Preset Protection, About Preset,
and
Bypass
menus are all identical to their counter-
parts in the Basic mode and as such their functions will not be addressed again here.
Downward Expanders Menu
The controls in the
Downward Expanders
menu allow you to control the maximum gain reduction (downward
expansion) for all bands as well as the threshold of each individual band. The total number of bands available in the
Downward Expanders section is determined by the number of bands of processing used in the Current Preset.
The Downward Expanders operate in a manner similar to a traditional “noise gate” and provide a useful means
for reducing unwanted background noise from less-than-perfect program material or from a noisy studio environ-
ment. The ratio of the expanders is 2:1.
♦
The
Maximum Gain Reduction
control determines the greatest amount of gain reduction for all available
bands.
♦
The
Target (coupled)
control adjusts the target of all of the bands simultaneously by an equal amount.
♦
The
Threshold
control for each band sets the point at which downward expansion begins. The range of
this control is from -90 to 0dB.
