The digital pad value for a BV1250 can be selected as -40, -4, -12, -
10, -8, -6, -4, -2, 0, +2, +4, +6, +8, +10, +12, +14 dB.
The unit default settings are:
AP/FXS PAD Out = -12 dB
AP/FXS PAD In = 0 dB
E&M/E&M-OD PAD Out = ± 0 dB
E&M/E&M-OD PAD In = ± 0 dB.
FXO Out = ± 0 dB
FXO Out = ± 0 dB.

As a general rule, when adjusting a unit’s PAD settings, all changes
should be made on the outgoing (PAD Out) side. When adjusting
both PAD Out and PAD In settings on a unit, care must be taken to
calculate the end-to-end gain/loss since these settings can have a
cumulative effect between communicating units. The PAD In setting
may be used to adjust the gain/loss between the PSTN and an FXO
unit.
The following figures illustrate the effects of the BV1250 default pad
settings.

For AP/FXS units, a -12 dB loss is inserted into the outgoing speech path.
This value emulates the typical line-loss characteristics for telephones
connected to a PSTN. The incoming path default is 0 dB.
