the 5000 series and 100 series telephone extensions and the 7000
series fax extensions by dialing the PBX Office Code 21 (i.e. 21-
7001).
The Trunk Group setup associated with the New York office’s PBX
B is configured so that calls using the PBX Office Code 27 will be
routed to the 100 series telephone extensions only.
FXO, PBX Office Codes, and Trunk Group Codes
Each FXO unit also has an Office Code associated with it. When an
FXO unit is directly associated with a PSTN this code is used in
accessing the PSTN. For example, when using an FXO unit with the
Office Code 99 to call the PSTN number 213-555-2345, the dialed
number would be the Office Code 99 and the PSTN number (i.e. 99-
213-2345). This example is not illustrated in the sample network
diagram.
In the sample network diagram, the Los Angeles office has two
FXO units that are grouped for create a Hunt Pattern. The FXO unit
Office Codes are not used. Instead, the Trunk Group code 32 is used
in much the same manner as the PBX Office Code is used in the
E&M example discussed earlier. In this case, the PSTN number is
accessed by first dialing the Trunk Group code 32 and then the
PSTN number (i.e. 32-213-2345). When this is done, the BV1250
will access one of the 8 ports to route the call.
Units 95 and 96 in the San Francisco office illustrate another FXO
arrangement. In this case the FXO units provide connectivity
through PBX Office Code 51. Calls from other locations can
connect to any extension associated with the PBX by dialing the
PBX Office Code 51 and the extension (i.e. to 51-60). The PBX line
out to the PSTN could be reached by dialing the PBX Office Code
51, and the PBX Access Code 9, and then the PSTN number (i.e.
51-9-415-555-2345).
A call can be placed from the San Francisco office through the
network by dialing one of the FXO unit’s PBX extensions and then
the destination number. For example, to place a call through to the
New York office PBX to extension 5001, the caller would dial the
FXO unit 96 PBX extension 75 and then the New York PBX Office
Code and the destination number (i.e. 75-21-5001). In the same
manner, the same caller could call a PSTN number through the New
York PSTN by dialing 75-21-9-812-555-2345, where 9 is the PBX
Access Code for a line-out to the PSTN.
