Many sheets arrive in the sentry tray
Cause of the problem
Sentry rejection is unwanted because it decreases the print production and increases paper
waste. The sentry tray collects sheets that the sentry has rejected. The sentry can detect sheets
that have malformations or damages. These paper imperfections could touch the printheads and
then cause failures in the ink production. (
)
There are two types of sentry rejections, each with another instruction to decrease the sentry tray
output:
1. Rejection of sheets that directly come from the paper module. In that case the malformation
or sheet damages were already present in the paper module.
2. Rejection of sheets that come from the duplex loop and already went through the print
process. These sheets were mostly printed, but not necessarily.
Below you find instructions to
prevent sentry rejection
and procedures to follow when you notice
too many sheets in the sentry tray
.
How to prevent the rejection of sheets by the sentry?
Correct media handling is the most important advise to prevent sentry rejection. This product
guide includes several instruction to help you
reduce the rejection of sheets by the sentry
.
• Follow the packaging and storage guidelines to prevent malformations and damage.
• Only load media from the media catalogue and being assigned to a paper tray.
• Ensure you load the media in the paper tray according to the load instructions.
• Ensure you remove media from the paper modules before the printer is shut down.
• Rewrap remaining media using the original orientation and package materials or other
moisture-proof materials.
• For each new media family, perform media family calibration. (
What to do when the sentry rejects sheets that directly come from the paper module?
Follow this procedure when the sentry tray collects blank sheets that directly come from the
paper module.
1. Stop the job.
2. Empty the sentry tray.
3. Take the media stack from the paper tray the job uses.
NOTE
If your job uses media from more than one paper tray, repeat the procedure for the
media of each paper tray.
4. Inspect the sheets of the stack.
