Installation and comissioning
The Rugboard and the special accessories that are homologa-
ted for use with it are mostly preconfigured, so that there is only
a minimum of configuration steps required before first use.
4.1
Placing the system components
- Unpack the Rugboard, connect the charger power supply with
or without the Dockin-Station (Special accessory) to mains
power, in order to charge the battery.
- If you need to work with Access Points, unpack these now.
Position them in such a way, that the distance from the PC to
the nearest Access point and the distance between access
points is no more than 20m with direct visual connection. Plug
the access point's power supply into a mains wall outlet. It is
NOT required to have a network cable from the PC to the
access points.
4.2
Preparing the PC for WLAN
The PC has to have a WLAN card that is configured to the
following parameters:
- IP-Adresse fixed 192.168.100.1
- WLAN-SSID ATT_WLAN
- WEP-Key 64bit 9911991199
- WLAN-Mode 'Peer-to-Peer' (Adhoc) if working without Ac-
cess Points, or 'Infrastructure' (Access point), if you are
working with Access points.
- Make sure that 'Configuration and Administration by Win-
dows' is NOT selected.
i
As the display resolution of the Rugboard is limited to
1024x768, it is recommended to select a resolution on the
PC that is not larger than that. If a higher resolution is
selected, you will see only parts of the PC's display, with
scroll bars on the side.
4.2.1
PC U21N (0 986 400 U21N)
This PC is completely prepared for taking the WLAN card that
comes in the scope of delivery of the Rugboard. Just mount it in
the correct slot as shown in the PC's installation manual. All
network and WLAN configuration will automatically be correct.
If you are working in Adhoc/Peer-to-Peer-Mode, and this PC is
the first/only one that you work with, there is no further configu-
ration required on the PC in the WLAN/Network settings. Other-
wise, follow the applicable steps as described in section 4.2.2.
The original driver CD that comes with the network card (Allnet
261) is not required in this case.
Instead of using the stub antenna that is in the card's box, it is
highly recommended to use the WLAN antenna extension 1 987
009 U1BN that comes with the rugboard kit.
!
Mount the antenna on a place outside any metal cabinet for
better range. The antenna has got a magnetic foot for easy
fixing. The brass plug at the end of the cable is screwed onto
the socket of the WLAN card, at the rear side of the PC.
4.2.2
Other PCs
On the example of a PC U08N, we show the necessary steps to
install and configure the WLAN card. Besides, for this special
PC, you will need the retrofit kit 1 987 009 UP8N, to equip it with
the necessary PCI socket.
Put the card into an empty PCI slot, and fix the slot plate as
needed on the PC.
